What is ITIL Version 5?

The scheme has nine core modules and one extension module, organised into three learning streams, each leading to a professional designation.
ITIL Practice Manager (Version 5)
Complete ITIL Foundation, one Practice Specialisation module (chosen from Monitor, Support and Fulfil; Plan, Implement and Control; or Collaborate, Assure and Improve) and ITIL Transformation.
ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5)
Complete ITIL Foundation, then ITIL Product, ITIL Service, ITIL Experience and ITIL Transformation. This stream builds advanced capability in product delivery, service management, experience management and organisational improvement.
ITIL Strategic Leader (Version 5)
Complete ITIL Foundation, then ITIL Strategy and ITIL Transformation. This stream focuses on aligning digital strategy, governance, investment and leadership across the enterprise.
Complete all three designations and you're awarded ITIL Master, the highest level of recognition in the scheme. There's also an ITIL AI Governance extension module for candidates who want to specialise further.
Every pathway starts in the same place: ITIL Foundation.
ITIL Foundation (Version 5): the starting point
ITIL Foundation introduces the shared language, core concepts and unified lifecycle for managing digital products and services. It's the entry point for all learners and the required prerequisite for every advanced Version 5 qualification, whether you're heading towards Practice Manager, Managing Professional or Strategic Leader.
It's also the right refresher if you already hold an ITIL v3 or ITIL 4 certification and want to update your credentials to Version 5.

The ITIL Foundation Examination
The exam itself is 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with a live online proctor. Pass mark is 65%, or 26 out of 40. It's scheduled through PeopleCert and available 24/7, so you sit it when you're ready, not when a course provider tells you to.
Two optional add-ons are worth knowing about if you want extra cover:
- PeopleCert Take2: one free exam re-sit if you don't pass first time
- PeopleCert Plus Membership: a 12-month subscription that includes the Take2 re-sit plus a wider range of candidate resources
If you'd rather learn live, ITIL Foundation (Version 5) is also available as a 2-day virtual classroom, in-person or as an onsite/private group delivery.
